Power In Perseverance?

“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours.” -Ayn Rand

You can’t fail if you don’t try and you can’t lose until you give up on yourself. Consequently there can be no failure unless you walk away. But Instead of walking away, why not persevere?

Perseverance is a strong and emotional trait that has the power to change an ordinary person into an amazing achiever, a perfect perceptionist.

Perseverance can also be defined as determination, persistence, tolerance, and insistence. It is the difference in the ability to hold on to your dreams and refuse to allow obstacles to step in your way. It is pushing forward and not letting go because obstacles appear. It is being sure that nothing stunts your progress. Perseverance is one of the most important secrets of achievement. It is Persistent steps toward achieving your goals and with a never quit will power can eventually lead you to achieve exactly what you set out to achieve.

It sounds simple, but is definitely not in bred; however it is crucial to your achievement. I believe Will Smith said it best when he was speaking to his son about never letting anyone tell him what he cannot do in the movie Pursuit of Happiness. “You want something. Go get it. Period!”

He wanted his son to know that, no matter what, he should set out to achieve whatever he wanted. We too should keep moving toward our goals and take advantage of every opportunity, taking to heart what Sir Winston Churchill stated in his commencement address where he said, “Never give up! Never give up! Never give up!”

Another reason that Perseverance is necessary in our road to goal achievement is because anything worthwhile is usually difficult to attain and the road hard to travel. This is where you may find the need to team perseverance with drive and determination. All three need to have a strong presence in your race. What's more, in our resolve to press ahead to goal achievement, we must expect to run into roadblocks. When they appear, remember that this is not the time to panic but to gather your senses and strategize your next move to weather the storm until it passes. After the turbulence settle, you can continue on your road; working toward your goal and hopefully without missing a beat. It is not going to come easy. This will be the point where you will need to muster the energy, power, and determination needed to keep it moving.

On the other hand, let’s not confuse perseverance with stubbornness. There is no need to keep banging your head against a wall. Have the presence of mind to temper your persistence with pure common sense. If you happen to run into a roadblock that you just can’t tackle after numerous attempts, then it is time you find another route. There is always more than one way “to skin a cat”. Though you will definitely feel the pressure of each roadblock you encounter, find the strength to endure. Do not be one of those people that give up during trying times. Why should you stop working toward your goals because you stumble across an obstacle?

We all possess the power to persevere, especially when we find ourselves in situations where we have no choice and are just as adamant when we set out to do or achieve something. It is simply a matter of deciding to.

Always remember that people do not succeed because it is their destiny; they succeed because they are determined to achieve. So when you come to bumps in the road and start to feel a little uncertain, say to yourself, “I can’t lose if I don’t quit!”
